Khawzawl is a census town in Khawzawl district in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is one of the most populous urban towns in Mizoram.

As declared in the 2011 Indian census, Khawzawl is a Notified Town city in district of Khawzawl, Mizoram. Khawzawl city is divided into 5 wards for which elections are held every 5 years. The Khawzawl Notified Town has a population of 11,022, of which 5,616 are males while 5,406 are females as reported in the 2011 Indian census.

The population of children aged 0-6 is 1,746, comprising 15.84 % of the total population of Khawzawl (NT). In Khawzawl Notified Town, Female Sex Ratio is 963 against state average of 976. Moreover, the Child Sex Ratio in Khawzawl is around 938 compared to Mizoram state average of 970. Literacy rate of Khawzawl city is 96.64%, higher than state average of 91.33%. Khawzawl (Notified Town) has the administration over 2,306 houses to which it supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage. It is also authorised to build roads within Notified Town limits and impose taxes on properties coming under its jurisdiction.

Khawzawl is the district headquarters of the Khawzawl district. There are various government offices in the town of Khawzawl. The local administration comprises of 10 Village panchayats (village councils) namely Lungvar, Darngawn, Arroveng, Zaingen, Zuchhip, Dinthar, Kawnzar, Vengthar, Electric veng, Hermon veng.


The main centre of Higher Education is Khawzawl College.

Christianity is the majority religion in Khawzawl, with over 98% adherence. Most belong to the Presbyterian Church of India (PCI), for which there are 11 local churches namely  2nd IR Kohhran, Lungvar, Vengsang, Venglai, Chhimveng, Kawnzar, Dinthar, Vengthar, Vengthar North, Electric veng, Hermon. Other denominations include - Baptist Church of Mizoram with three local churches at Lungvar, Vengchhak, Dinthar.

United Penticostal Church of Mizoram (Six) local Churches at Lungvar, Vengpui, Kawnzar, Dinthar, Vengthar, Hermon.

United Penticostal Church of NEI (five) local churches at Arroveng, Zuchhip, Kaawnzar, Vengthar, Hermon.

Salvation Army (three) local churches are Khawzawl corps, Dinthar crops and Vengthar crops.

Fundamental Baptist Church (two) local churches Vengsang and Vengthar. There is one Roman Catholic church, Lalchhungkua, Kohhran Thianghlim, Pentecostal Reform Church, Sabbath Kohhran and Gospel Baptish Church in the town of khawzawl.

The Government of Mizoram ordered the creation of offices of the Deputy Commissioners of Hnahthial, Saitual and Khawzawl Districts vide a notification dated 3rd June, 2019, after which the three Districts started becoming operational. Khawzawl used to be part of the Champhai district, and is now an independent district.
